在我的童年回憶中 澎湖原野的景色，是海天一色的地平線.，風過滿野的深碧綠色的草原 是澄橘.鮮黃.艷紅的融合再加上一層樸實的天人菊 但最鮮明的影音印象 無疑是飛翔在藍空中，嘹喨地歌唱的澎湖小雲雀了
澎湖小雲雀，俗稱"半天鳥" 屬百靈科，是澎湖特有的地區亞種 體色比台灣的雲雀更黃褐色 小雲雀的喙短而厚，靠吃昆蟲為生，胸是黃淺色，有黑淺色尖斑， 腹部以下是淡黃淺色 夏季為繁殖盛期，產卵3到5個 從春末到初秋，都可以輕易地在澎湖的草叢和原野上 發現牠嬌小玲瓏的身軀 但喜歡出現在空曠的地方 尤其是在青天之上 不靠氣流盤旋，單以拍翅在天空中的一點滯留達數分鐘 牠那睥睨的姿態，奮力振翅的模撲，連綿清脆的歌聲 都令人在腦海中深深烙印牠的形象 更因為牠深具澎湖特色 經票選後，成為澎湖縣縣鳥，澎湖縣野鳥學會會鳥
但令人憂心的是 澎湖小雲雀被濫捕的情形 曾經嚴重到登上全國性報紙的程度(中國時報1998.7.3第17版.記者:吳敏菁) 七美鄉有鑑於此，嚴格從機場，漁船等方面把關著手， 禁止了七美的小雲雀被販售外地 但本島的情形就不清楚了 不禁讓我既憤怒又焦急不已

◎ 澎 湖 小 雲 雀 的 生 態 習 性 ：
雲 雀 〈 Alauda gulgula〉 係 屬 於 百 靈 科 鳥 類 〈 全 世 界 75種 ， 台 灣 1種 〉 ， 百 靈 科 鳥 類 除 南 北 極 外 ， 分 佈 世 界 各 地 。 在 台 灣 有 繁 殖 。 頭 上 有 羽 冠 ， 雙 翼 寬 廣 ， 腳 略 長 ， 後 爪 甚 長 。 主 要 棲 息 於 空 曠 草 原 、 旱 田 、 山 區 之 空 曠 地 帶 。 以 昆 蟲 、 植 物 種 子 為 食 。 常 於 地 面 活 動 ， 喜 鳴 唱 ， 築 巢 於 窪 地 。
雲 雀 台 灣 有 二 亞 種 ， 〈 A.g.wattersi〉 產 於 本 島 ， 全 身 黃 褐 色 ， 有 黑 褐 色 縱 斑 ； 後 頭 羽 毛 略 長 ， 呈 冠 羽 狀 ； 胸 黃 褐 色 ， 有 黑 褐 色 縱 斑 ； 腹 以 下 淡 黃 褐 色 。另 一 亞 種 澎 湖 雲 雀 〈 A.g.coelivox〉 產 於 澎 湖 ， 全 身 黃 褐 色 較 濃 。
◎ 票 選 澎 湖 縣 縣 鳥 過 程 ：
澎 湖 縣 因 地 理 環 境 特 殊 ， 生 物 相 豐 富 且 多 變 化 ， 其 中 又 以 種 數 眾 多 的 鳥 類 ， 最 令 人 欣 喜 疼 愛 。 鳥 類 是 環 境 品 質 之 指 標 ， 為 增 進 澎 湖 縣 縣 民 對 本 土 鳥 種 之 認 識 ， 提 昇 愛 鳥 情 懷 ， 尊 重 生 命 ， 進 而 參 與 野 生 動 物 保 育 工 作 ， 共 同 維 護 、 珍 惜 澎 湖 縣 自 然 生 態 資 源 ， 澎 湖 縣 政 府 特 舉 辦 此 票 選 縣 鳥 活 動 。
請 澎 湖 縣 野 鳥 學 會 推 薦 八 種 澎 湖 縣 較 具 代 表 性 之 鳥 類 ， 分 別 為 澎 湖 小 雲 雀 、 綠 繡 眼 、 白 眉 燕 鷗 、 東 方 環 頸 ﾘ 、 斑 頸 鳩 、 岩 鷺 、 白 頭 翁 、 玄 燕 鷗 ， 其 中 以 澎 湖 小 雲 雀 所 獲 得 票 數 最 高 ， 經 縣 長 公 佈 為 「 澎 湖 縣 縣 鳥 」 。
◎ 「 半 天 鳥 」 的 由 來 ：
「 澎 湖 小 雲 雀 」 是 澎 湖 地 區 特 有 亞 種 的 鳥 ， 是 澎 湖 縣 全 年 可 見 的 留 鳥 ， 也 是 澎 湖 縣 目 前 已 知 的 特 有 野 生 動 物 ， 常 可 發 現 牠 們 在 野 外 的 田 梗 或 天 人 菊 旁 〈 縣 鳥+縣 花 〉 ， 構 成 一 幅 充 滿 菊 島 之 畫 面 ， 令 人 引 發 出 一 種 鄉 土 情 懷 之 震 撼!「 澎 湖 小 雲 雀 」 相 貌 雖 平 淡 無 奇 ， 但 是 卻 有 上 天 賦 予 輕 靈 婉 轉 的 歌 喉 ， 春 天 繁 殖 季 時 ， 公 鳥 便 一 面 垂 直 上 昇 ， 一 邊 高 歌 不 停 ， 民 間 發 現 牠 們 常 懸 浮 在 半 空 中 鳴 叫 ， 故 俗 稱 牠 們 為 「 半 天 鳥 」 。
